Your CV is a summary of your qualifications, skills, experiences and qualities which will be used by the employer to determine whether you meet the job requirements. To make a good first impression, a well-written resume should be clear, concise and organised with content relevant to the position you are applying for. A good CV will help the employer determine whether or not you are worth interviewing.
What to include in your Curriculum Vitae (CV for the German Market)?
Contact details: Your name (if you have a name that is difficult to pronounce consider helping the employer with the correct pronunciation by providing phonetic spellings in brackets after your name).
A professional email address as your name (rather than a nickname).
A telephone number where the employer can leave a message.
A summary of your work history and education

Start with your most recent job and then your previous jobs chronologically (showing months and years). If you have been working for many years, consider going back 10-15 years. Always include your title or position, name of the organisation and describe your job responsibilities and tasks. If you have worked abroad or if previous employers are not well known, consider including a line of explanation using the heading “About the company”. Also include your volunteer work. If you have been out of the workforce (looking after young children, caring for a sick family member, travelling or studying) it is important to explain why and provide relevant dates.

Include any qualifications, accreditations, licences, registrations and certifications relevant to the job vacancy. Describe each item by its full and correct title; name the institution that awarded you the qualification, your key areas of study and the date of completion.
Tailor your CV by linking what you have achieved in the education and training system or through voluntary work to what the employer needs, e.g. “established reliable work habits”, “ability to learn and apply new skills”, “provided accurate written reports and summaries”. Even though most correspondence will be done via email, consider including a postal or residential address.
